Time to rethink benefit sanctions

Venue: Waterfront Room 3

Nearly a million people had their benefits sanctioned or stopped last year for failing to obey, in full, detailed instructions related to finding work. The Methodist Church, together with ecumenical partners, has launched a hard-hitting campaign to highlight the impact of the system and to call for change.

Research for the report showed that sanctions disproportionately impact the most vulnerable people, and last year affected 100,000 children. Over 100 people assessed as unfit for work due to mental health problems are sanctioned each day.

There will be three 30-minute briefing sessions on Saturday morning at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm, followed by the opportunity for questions and discussion, with the Joint Public Issues Team. Please drop in and join us!!
