DD Stories iconA Year of Prayer

As part of the unfolding of the Lancashire District's four-year policy of 'Transforming Lives and Communities,' 2012 has been designated as a Year of Prayer.

A wonderful district celebration was held in January, and at the sixth Inspire Conference in February, 350 people of all ages gathered for teaching and inspiration on prayer.

Throughout the year, each circuit is encouraged to hold one main event/day/week on prayer and to invite others to join them.

DD Lancashire Prayer Walk 0712

The District Chair, Stephen Poxon, is prayer-walking across Lancashire. This began on Palm Sunday and ends in October, as he walks to each church and Methodist school and MHA in the district to spend time with local people in conversation and prayer.

The 222-mile walk over 30 days in split into two-or-three day blocks and people are invited to walk with him along the way.

DD Stories iconInspiring Fellowship

Over the last couple of years, the Inspire Network has grown to include more than 500 people who are exploring what it means to live as a mission-shaped disciple in everyday life.

Margaret Parker, a former vice-president of the Methodist Church, felt God guiding her to gather together a fellowship band at a time when she had lost her passion for sharing her faith with those around her.

Like other fellowship bands, Margaret's group meets for mutual accountability and spiritual direction: "I thank God for the vision of the Inspire network with all its rich and flexible resources."

DD Stories iconJourney into Faith

As a response to the Connexional initiative, Extending Discipleship; Exploring Vocation (EDEV), the East Anglia District's Committee for Learning launched 'Journey into Faith.'

The district has created a ten-year strategy, running from 2010 to 2020, named '20:20 Vision,' the aim of which is to ensure, in Graham Thompson's words, "that by the year 2020 everybody should see clearly what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ," with a focus on a different element of discipleship each year.

DD East Anglia Journey into Faith 0712Journey to Faith was launched in 2010 with a district-wide event, at which people shared stories of discipleship in their everyday lives and received a 'travel log' in which to record their personal journey.

In 2011, to celebrate the anniversary of the KJV, a Biblefresh Celebration was held in February, with workshops and worship for all ages, including Rockin' the World (with a local Christian rock band).

Since the launch of 20:20 Vision, hundreds of people have attended district-wide discipleship days, which always include well-stocked resource tables, as well as corporate worship and workshops. The district is now looking to 2013, the 'year of witness.'
