Taking action on the trafficking of women and girls in Europe
We are working together with other agencies to raise awareness of this issue. You can read the 2008 report on how the Methodist Church is working with Open Horizon to gain first hand experience of the issues around trafficking.
Where other organisations have produced suitable resources, we recommend them to you. We draw together those booklets and stories that we think will be helpful for churches and individuals as we work together to support victims and survivors, and raise awareness of their needs.

New focus since the signing of the Council of Europe Convention on 23 March 2007:
Addressing demand for paid sex, supporting the provision of safe housing for victims who have been trafficked, and encouraging the government to put in place actions to implement the Convention, leading to its ratification in 2009. Visit www.chaste.org.uk for more information about addressing demand.
When 8 member countries of the Council of Europe ratified the Council of Europe's Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings it came into force in those countries on 1 February 2008. The government's UK Action Plan needs to be fully in place to ensure the measures required of the Convention can be met in the UK. The UK government plans to ratify the Convention in 2009.
