How to subscribe to podcasts
What is a podcast?
Podcasts are audio files (short radio-style programmes) that are made available to listeners via a website. Like regular audio files they can be downloaded and listened to on your computer, but podcasts can also be automatically downloaded when a new programme is published, without the need to visit the webpage again. They can then be loaded onto a portable mp3 player (such as an iPod) or listened to at your computer.
How to get podcasts automatically downloaded onto your computer
1. Get some podcast software
You have to download a piece of software which will search the web to find the latest version of the files you want, for example, the latest Methodist Church podcast.
A list of downloadable podcast software is available at www.podcastingnews.com/topics/Podcast_Software.html
(The Methodist Church is not responsible for the content of external sites. Always read the set-up and help guides for new software)
2. Add the address of the "feed" of the Methodist Church podcast to your software
Subscribe to the Methodist Church podcast by copying the address of the podcast "feed" and adding it to your podcast application. The address of the feed is:
http://www.methodist.org.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=opentogod.podcast
This address is also accessed when you click on the 'RSS PODCAST' icon on the Methodist Web Radio page. Once a webpage containing some 'code' appears, the address of the feed appears in the address bar of your browser window.
3. Downloading
When a new show for your subscriptions becomes available your software will automatically download it. On completion you can listen to the mp3 on your computer or transfer it to your portable player to listen to later.
The software will automatically download subsequent shows as soon as they are available.
