On the third day of Christmas...
I cycled along the damp streets as the day began to grow dark and looked in at houses not yet having their curtains drawn. Everywhere there were shimmering little coloured and white lights on trees or dangling from windows. Hanging from balconies and illuminating doorways there were any number of fairy lights challenging the chill in the air, the dimness, the starkness of trees without any cover and the lack of daylight.
And I thought to myself, God, you are very kind to us.
In the deepest, darkest and dimmest days of the year you have encouraged us to create a festival of colour, of celebration about what it means to give to one another, to share with one another, to be special with one another, to remember one another, particularly the smallest and the most vulnerable.
Thank you.
And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?
Another year over?
A new one just begun…
