VOLUNTEERING WITH THE METHODIST CHURCH


Sample Volunteer Agreement

This is a sample agreement and should be altered according to the specific person involved. It is based on the Sample Agreement model provided by the National Centre for Volunteering.

The Agreement describes the arrangement between the volunteer and the Methodist Church and should be used alongside the volunteer's work outline and after reading the Methodist Church's Volunteering guidelines on this website.

The church should assure the volunteer of its appreciation of the volunteer's commitment and that the church will do the best it can to make the volunteering experience positive and rewarding.

Part 1: The Church

We, on behalf of the Methodist Church, accept the voluntary service of (name)beginning (date). Your role as a volunteer is (brief nature and components of work).This work is designed to (state purpose of work in relation to its benefit to the organisation). We are committed to:

1. Induction and training

To provide a thorough induction on the work of the Methodist Church, its staff, your volunteering role and the training you need to meet the responsibilities of this role.

2. Supervision, support and flexibility

To explain the standards we expect for our services and to encourage and support you to achieve and maintain them;

To provide a named person who will meet with you regularly to discuss your volunteering and any achievements and problems;

To do our best to help you develop your volunteering role with us;

To be as flexible as possible with regards to your working hours, recognising your need for time for holidays, commitments to family and friends and other reasons as agreed with your supervisor;

To honour the time commitment you have agreed to give to us and not to expect more, unless offered and agreed.

3. Expenses

To repay these expenses following procedures set out in the (Church/Circuit/ District/Project's guidelines):

Travel to and from home to (the office) and during your work: See the guidelines for rules on methods of travel and car mileage allowances.

4. Health and Safety

To provide adequate training and to receive feedback in support of our health and safety policy, a copy of which is available on request.

5. Insurance

To provide adequate insurance cover for volunteers whilst undertaking voluntary work approved and authorised by (the church/Circuit/District/Project).

6. Equal Opportunities

To ensure that all volunteers are dealt with in accordance with the Methodist Church's equal opportunities policy (a copy of which is available from ... ).

7. Problems

To try to resolve fairly any problems, grievances and difficulties you may have while you volunteer with us.

In the event of an unresolved problem, to offer an opportunity to discuss the issues in accordance with procedures set out in guidelines of (the church/Circuit/District/Project).

Part 2: The Volunteer

I, (full name printed) agree to be a volunteer with (name) Methodist Church and am committed to the following:

  1. To help the Methodist Church fulfil its purpose through (name of church)
  2. To perform my volunteering role to the best of my ability.
  3. To follow the Methodist Church's procedures and standards, including health and safety and equal opportunities, in relation to its staff, volunteers and anybody they work with.
  4. To maintain the confidential information of the Methodist Church and of its clients.
  5. To meet time and other commitments as agreed except in exceptional circumstances, and to give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made.
  6. To work as agreed in my work outline except where agreed by both parties.
  7. To provide referees where agreed who may be contacted, and to agree to Safeguarding procedures set out in (the church/Circuit/District/Project) guidelines.
  8. To meet my agreed time commitment as described in my work outline.

This agreement is binding in honour only, it is not intended to be a legally binding contract between us and may be cancelled at any time at the discretion of either party. Neither of us intend any employment relationship to be created either now or at any time in the future.
