Change of Registered Body for DBS/PVG Check

Message sent to DBS/PVG Lay verifiers, District Safeguarding Officers, District Chairs, MDO Warden, District Safeguarding Group Chairs, DMLN Regional Coordinators, Ministers, Connexional HR team, Children and Youth Team

Dear Colleague

Following the notification that the Churches Agency for Safeguarding (CAS) will be ceasing to trade at the end of this calendar year, members of the Connexional team supported by District Safeguarding Officers, have undergone a competitive procurement process to appoint a new registered body for carrying out Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checks, PVG Checks and the additional security checks as necessary for the Methodist Church.

This contract will support the undertaking of best safeguarding practice in line with the Methodist Church Safeguarding Policy. This service provides a significant opportunity to churches to ensure that a quality, well-managed online service can be provided at a very competitive cost as well as having the capacity to respond to any future changes the government may make to the DBS/PVG scheme.

Further details will be sent next month about the new provider, training on the new system and the new process. A cut-off date for applications to be done through CAS will also be confirmed. We are planning to roll out in one of the districts next month with the rest following soon after. As we know there will be a handover period if you are aware of any checks due between now and the end of the year it is advisable that you do this as soon as you can.

Best wishes
Tim Carter | Safeguarding Adviser
