Applying to be an OPP


ONE Programme Participant vacancies, open to 16 - 23 year olds, are posted on the  ONE Programme Participants' Placements Page and the deadline for applications are between 24 April & 5 May depending on the role.


Since its inception in 2009 the ONE Programme has provided an opportunity for young people to make a difference in their local community and to the Methodist Church as a whole.  It was set up as part of the Methodist Church's Youth Participation Strategy, to demonstrate the unique added value young people can bring to a piece of work. 

The concept of a gap year is often referred to as "taking a year off".  In contrast, the ONE Programme refers to the year's placement as "taking a year on"- using that year to make a difference.

The ONE Programme provides young people (aged 16-23 years) with the opportunity to get involved at a local level in a project, based in churches or in projects connected to the Methodist Church as a ONE Programme Participant (OPP)

Each year churches and projects can apply to host an OPP.  The selection of successful projects is made by an independent panel of adults and young people.

There are 11 OPPs based in each Methodist Region around the UK. 


OPPs attend an initial training weekend in September as part of their induction, with three more residential meetings during the rest of the year, where they are provided with access to skills-based training and opportunities for spiritual reflection. There is also the option to work towards completing a Cliff College 'Certificate in Leadership', as well as a requirement to take part in some of the major events of the Methodist calendar such as the Methodist Conference and the 3Generate Children's and Youth Assembly.

This is a part-time job, working an average of 65 hours per calendar month, with an annual salary of £6561.00 per annum (£7,647.00 in London)*

*(to be uprated in line with the cost of living increase)

This post holds an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a young person within the age range of 16-23 (Standing Order 250, and the Missing Generation Report, Conference 2009).

This appointment will be made subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
