A Place to Live, Methodist Action (North West) Ltd

Methodist Action is an award winning charity created in 2010. The Charity continues the social action work with the homeless in Preston begun in 1978 through the congregation of Central Methodist Church. Our work currently covers the areas of Preston, South Ribble, Lancaster, Morecambe & Blackpool - all located in the Methodist Lancashire District. The Charity has a clear focus on its core services to the homeless.

In our plan, the Charity is linking and addressing four themes of local need:
• Empty homes: 149,946 homes are empty in the North West
• Homelessness: £1 billion is the estimated cost of homelessness nationally
• Affordable Homes: 26,161 people are waiting for council/social housing in Lancashire District
• Multiple Disadvantage: 5,000,000 people suffer from multiple disadvantages nationally.

One key element of our growth plan is to increase our available homes from 170 to over 400 - expanding into other geographic areas of need in the District; at least 50% of these homes will have been former empty properties; this will enable us to develop opportunities for training in the renovation of those homes. In order to achieve our ambitious social and business objectives we need to build capacity, and require a number of key new team members who will drive the growth of our property portfolio & support our tenants - a Property Development Manager; a Tenancy Liaison Officer & an Outreach Mentor

Grant awarded: £50,000
