Silent Night CarolsSilent Night

As part of HOPE's focus on 2014 as a year of mission, HOPE and HOPE's partners have prepared resources to help churches to mark the centenary of World War 1 at the heart of local communities. Visit  www.hopetogether.org.uk/christmas for all the resources to hold a Silent Night Carols event to mark the centenary of the 1914 Christmas Truce.

A new version of Silent Night (Christ The Saviour Is Born), commissioned by HOPE and Integrity music, has been recorded by multi-platinum-selling tenor Paul Potts. The Welsh singer won the first series of ITV's Britain's Got Talent in 2007. The single goes on sale on 7th December.

Greater Love

CVM (Christian Vision for Men) in partnership with HOPE Together have created the Greater Love DVD resource for churches, to help them lead their communities in commemorating the centenary of the start of World War One.

It's endorsed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Archbishop of York and the Prince of Wales.

It features testimonies from current and former servicemen and their families and has a very 'seeker-friendly' Gospel presentation using WW1 as a backdrop.

See www.cvm.org.uk/greaterlove for more details and to order.

Remembering war and building peace
An all-age service to commemorate the First World War

4 August 2014 marks the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and over the next five years significant events during that conflict will be commemorated.

This service offers a biblical context based around the story of Joshua in which to begin our reflections on a long and epoch-making conflict.

The service draws upon the correspondence of serving soldiers and their families to help worshippers get in touch with the experience and feelings of those involved at the front and at home.

The ideas are easily adaptable to local contexts, for example, people could be asked to bring in their own family memorabilia.

ROOTS resources are published in two magazines - Adult & All Age and Children & Young People, plus a supporting website.
