2013 January/February World Church News Bulletin

"Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it. Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable garland, but we an imperishable one."
1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NRSV)

Dear friends,

It may seem that the time has passed for wishing you a happy New Year, but none the less, the World Church Relationships office warmly wishes you all a blessed and prosperous 2013!

Many among us made New Year's resolutions at the beginning of the year. We may have stuck to them rigorously thus far, or we may have already broken them! At times, New Year's resolutions can be quite inward-looking and focused on 'I'. They can often be based around how we hope to improve our image, our attitude, our skills, our prospects and fulfil our desires in the year ahead. But in the scripture above, we are encouraged by the word of God to focus our energies on the imperishable things in life which are rooted in God's kingdom values.

In this month's World Church Bulletin, we read about how our partner churches, organisations and mission personnel across the world are working towards imperishable goals that are touching lives and changing people for the glory of God's kingdom. These include rebuilding lives in Haiti and Japan, peace building in Pakistan, loving one's neighbour by offering practical legal support in Sierra Leone, touching lives through tent mission in Europe and more. We hope that you will be encouraged by this work and will consider whether you might volunteer for the variety of current overseas placements that feature in this month's edition.

Wishing you every blessing,

The World Church Relationships Team
