Please Pray for Chile

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Psalm 46:1 NRSV

Please pray for the inhabitants of Northern Chile, where unseasonal rains have caused rivers to overflow, causing flooding in the regions of Antofagasta, Atacama and Copiapó. The Bishop of The Methodist Church in Chile, Pedro Correa, has visited the Atacama area, one of the driest in the world, and reports that the devastation is extensive, with people falling ill, and little support available from public services.

The Methodist Church in Britain has since sent a grant of £7,500 to The Methodist Church in Chile to help them provide families in the Atacama region with food, water and shelter, as well as to support reparation work to four damaged churches, 8 homes and an old people's home.

During this trying time the Methodist Church in Chile is standing on the words of Psalm 46:1, saying, in a recent newsletter, "In this time of tribulation, where pain has the face of brothers and sisters, where nature has once more surprised us, God lets us know that he is "our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1 NRSV)
