September 2014 World Church Bulletin

Dear friends in Mission:

"And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.   Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28: 18-20 NRSV

"Go". What an interesting word! One that hints of action, progress, excitement, urgency… In this passage Jesus is telling us to go. Not "if you want to, then go", or, "everyone go… except you", He's simply saying… GO. "Especially you". As part of a discipleship movement shaped for mission we are all missionaries in our own right, authorised by Jesus to act on his behalf to champion justice, alleviate suffering and pain, and to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Whether in our home towns, our country, or somewhere further afield, we have a mission to fulfil. Whether via social media, prayer, fundraising, or something more political, we have a mission to fulfil.

This edition of the World Church Bulletin showcases just that; Partner organisations, churches and individuals all over the world taking missionary action. The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma rising up in solidarity with West Papua, supporters Graham and Lynda Jones fundraising for one of our partner organisations, and Mission partner Wande Ebofin obeying her call to mission despite sometimes facing shaky ground (literally).

Take a look at the world around you, and then beyond you. Be it rising homelessness in Britain, economic difficulties in Europe, the Israel-Palestine conflict or medical emergencies in West Africa, the need is great. It is at times like this when the great commission becomes more urgent than ever. There has never been a greater time to act, to "Go" than now.

Wishing you a spirit of boldness, love and sound mind,

The World Church Relationships Team
