Violence in Lahore

We have received reports from our partners in Pakistan that an altercation took place between Muslim and Christian communities on Saturday in a residential area of Badami Bagh in Lahore, which has affected over 1,000 people living in the Joseph Christian Colony. The incident has led to 178 houses being burnt and many more homes ransacked and possessions completely destroyed. Two Churches have also been burnt down and public property in the area has also been targeted.

Let us pray for the people of Badami Bagh:

Loving and gracious God,
We continue to commit the people of Pakistan into your almighty hands, especially those affected by recent violence in Badami Bagh.
Lord, we pray that according to your word in Isaiah 9:7 which says, "His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace…" (NRSV), you will keep the hearts of all those involved in perfect peace.
We ask that you comfort those who mourn the loss of their homes and possessions and that you give wisdom to Pakistani police, government and judicial authorities to bring about a lasting, peaceful solution to that community.

We pray that you give our partners, the Church of Pakistan and CLAAS (the Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement) the wisdom and grace to support and help those affected and as they work with Pakistani authorities to bring God's justice into the situation.
Lord, let your perfect will be done and let your kingdom of peace, grace, love and mercy come.
In the name of your son Jesus, we offer up this prayer to you.
