ENCOUNTER WORLDWIDE - Short term volunteer mission placements (3 months to 12 months)

 

 Senior Medical Skills needed for up to 12 months

Opportunities have been requested by the Methodist Churches of Colombia, Nigeria and Cameroon for a variety of medical professionals to support the health work being undertaken across a variety of countries.  These roles would appeal to medical professionals called to serve in God’s mission for between 6 and 12 months.

Across the Methodist Partner Churches

There are a variety of education-based roles for English language teaching, theology teaching and youth support.  These placements are for between 3 and 12 months.

Specialist Skills Missions (approx. one week to a month)

 

Cameroon: Presbyterian Church of Cameroon

 

Marketing and Journalism

The Presbyterian Church of Cameroon has requested specific support in helping to develop their marketing and journalism skills, in particular in TV and audio.  The role would suit an experienced individual who is able to run training sessions in this field. 

Medical Practitioners

A variety of medical professionals have been requested to support the work of the Health Services Department of the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon.  Short or Long term placements would be considered. 

Nigeria: Methodist Church Nigeria

 

Theology Teaching

A request has been received for teaching and training skills as part of a new BA Theology course at the Methodist Church Nigeria University.  The role would suit anyone feeling called to overseas service as part of his or her sabbatical or who can offer a short period to cover a teaching block. 

Medical Practitioners

The Methodist Church of Nigeria has requested specific support across the medical field.  A variety of medical professionals could support their work both in hospital care and public health community care.  Short and long term placements would be considered.

Myanmar: 2018 and 2019

 

Children’s English Camp

In Mandalay District there is a summer children’s English Camp, an annual district event for 6-14 year olds in the holidays. It runs continually from March to May, and a volunteer from the Methodist Church in Britain for a few weeks would be most welcome.

Local Preacher Training

Also in Mandalay District, running at the same time as the English Camp is the Local Preacher training and an invitation is offered for someone to contribute a week’s training.

Methodist Theological College, Mandalay

Mandalay has just opened its Wesley Ecumenical Research Centre. A visit by someone prepared to offer seminars or workshops on Wesley and Wesleyan topics would be welcomed. This could be offered at any time by negotiation with the Principal.  The aim is both to attract scholars to academic presentations but also to engage ministers and church members in the districts.

Please get in touch with the World Church Relationships team at: wcr.admin@methodistchurch.org.uk  for an Expression of Interest form.  Funding may be possible in some circumstances and a regional/cultural briefing will be provided prior to the visit.  All specialist skills mission volunteers will need to have a DBS and should have some previous experience of working overseas.
