Creative Arts

The Methodist Church affirms the
creative arts:
- as an aid to worship
- as a tool for mission
- as important for personal and corporate wholeness
The Methodist Church is committed to:
- developing local churches' appreciation of the creative
arts
- helping people use their creative gifts
- acting as a resource for those leading worship, retreats,
etc.
- Using the arts to raise awareness of the cultural life of our
society
Resources:
ArtServe
ArtServe is an organisation which aims to
support the use of all creative arts in worship. It is an
initiative of the Methodist Church Music Society.
An increasing number of worship groups include performance,
dance and drama in a variety of ways, and Artserve
will support the use of these art forms.
Visual arts represent ever-expanding possibilities, whether
simply informing or being actively included in our worship;
banners, paintings, sculpture, through to film and
tv. Artserve will develop ways to make these more accessible
to all for use in worship.
See www.artserve.org.uk
for more information.
The Seed - sharing resources for the good of
all
The Seed is a website (formerly 12 Baskets),
originally founded with support from the Methodist Church, which
allows people who produce PowerPoints, mini-movies, music, written
word and images to sell and share their work quickly and easily at
no cost to themselves.
For a small fee, others will be able to download material for
projection, magazines, posters etc, without having to worry about
any copyright restrictions. The originator will earn royalties, and
10% of profits will go to charity.
There is a vast wealth of resources sitting on people's computers
that could be of great value to the whole Church. The Seed aims to
build a vast and accessible online library, improving the quality
of resources for worship, event publicity, and otherwise spreading
the message of God.
So visit www.seedresources.com and start
sharing your work.
Churchart
www.churchart.co.uk is a
website which encourages artists, congregations and those involved
in the care of churches to foster and engage the arts in the life
of the church. Churchart was established by the Council for Care of
Churches as a free resource. CCC is the Church of England's
national body with responsibility for promoting the encouragement
of artistic creativity and craftsmanship in churches and
churchyards.
The Methodist Church has been involved in helping establish
this website. As it develops, there will be opportunities to list
Methodist artists - please contact Council for the Care of Churches
direct if you would like to register an entry
