Editorial

Philippa Normanton became the first editor of Flame and, after initially serving as a volunteer, John Parker followed in her footsteps for the next three years.

The final issue of any publication can be a sad time, but it is also an opportunity for rejoicing. It can be a time to let go and move on; a time to say thank you and to say good-bye.

One good-bye was not planned, John Parker was taken ill whilst preparing this last edition and sadly died a few days later.

We thank God for John and for all that he did, we pray for those who grieve for him, but celebrate a life of service to others.

John and Philippa jointly prepared an editorial for this final issue which appears here…

Dear Friends

This is Flame’s thirtieth and final issue. During the past 5 years we have been pleased to bring to you news and stories of God’s work and God’s world. We have provided information about the Methodist Church in Great Britain and its links with some of the other Methodist Churches around the world. Maybe some of the articles have been helpful in your housegroup? Maybe some of the challenges have been taken up by your church? Maybe you have been helped in your own personal walk with the Lord? The Spirit is ever active, creating, inspiring, transforming. Praise God!

We do know that very many of you have enjoyed reading Flame.‘Thank you’ for your support and encouragement. All who have been associated with the production of Flamehave been pleased to serve the Methodist family, sharing insights, vision and
encouragement. Your letters have been welcome and we have made new friends along the way.

We are indebted to all our contributors for their articles for Flame. It has been a pleasure working with you as together we have sought to celebrate what it means to be Christian in the Methodist tradition.
