Nothing much to say this month! Keep the stories coming. I have several stories
in hand but I'm always glad to be able to choose. If you do think of contacting
me, please bear in mind that I like to have two different contacts for e-mail
and phone.

pleased to tell you more.

WORSHIP -
two initiatives
From Lorton Street, Cockermouth,
Cumbria
|
First, 'saturdaynightlive@lortonst.come' involves a meal at 5pm followed
by groups on a theme (such as healing) in various forms - drama, quiet
room, pub visit etc. - then a session together. We're planning to
use arts and crafts as well. Second, we've started a monthly '3rd
Sunday Service', with a varied music group, plus a screen to improve singing
and to include interviews, photos etc. When an 87-year-old says he'll come
again, we think that's approval!

LEARNING and
CARING -
in tranquillity
From Hartlip, Kent
|
We're
proud to have one of the oldest Methodist churches in Kent, opened
in 1821. Four years ago we raised money to convert the Schoolroom into a Retreat
Centre, a place of tranquillity open to all: we've also restored the flint
walls of the chapel. The Centre's been used by a local hospice, prison
and hospital chaplaincies, groups from various denominations and some of other
than Christian faiths. We see this as part of our mission and make no charge,
though we're happy to accept donations!

EVANGELISM
- among the elderly
From
Esh Winning, Durham
|
We held a short course on evangelism among retired people, which challenged the
assumption that elderly people just need 'looking after'. Of course
many lead outgoing, active lives, and we thought about encouraging them to spend
time thinking about spiritual matters, and especially about the claims of Jesus.
There are vast numbers of elderly people in our communities. If they respond,
we believe they could revitalise our churches and make us more outgoing.

SERVICE
-
in the comfort zone
From
New Central, Blackpool
|
There are about 50 homeless people in our town area at any one time - though
the number fluctuates during the year. We've started a 'comfort zone' where
homeless people can sit and have food, do their laundry, meet with the local homeless
action team, and receive first aid. They can also, if they wish, become part
of the church community via our Wednesday coffee shop services. The project is
not publicly funded: it's supported by church members and staffed by volunteers.
