Thanks for clicking on our page and for your interest in our upcoming (September start) Methodist Young Adults Programme roles. You will notice that we have not yet uploaded any application packs. Covid-19 has meant that we have needed to review some aspects of our programme.

Be reassured that we will be publishing new closing and interview dates in the days ahead. We are grateful for your patience as we reframe a few things.

WHAT IS THE METHODIST YOUNG ADULTS VOCATIONS PROGRAMME?

Our vision is to grow young adults aged 21 – 30 years of age, from all backgrounds, in their faith and equip them to be active agents of change and disciples in their churches and communities, thus enabling them to be instruments of God’s grace and love in new places including their communities and the world.

Through this newly reframed programme we are investing in the spiritual formation, vocational development and preparation of young adults who are equipped for a life of mission in the 21st Century.

We offer a unique, fair, accessible and challenging initiative for all young adults to engage their faith with their profession and calling whilst raising up leaders within a peer context of vocational discernment and mentoring.

We now have 2 streams in our programme:

Stream 1 (see below for stream descriptions) - Pioneer/Entrepreneur – Mission, Evangelism & Leadership Focus.

Stream 2 (see below for stream descriptions) - Vocational and Discipleship Focus (Leadership)

 

 WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE FOR SEPTEMBER 2020?

 We have 4 posts located across the UK with the following organisations/sectors:

Roles available after Easter 2020: Roles will go live on a rolling basis so please check back regularly until the role you wish to apply for has appeared).

Stream 1 (see below for stream descriptions) - Pioneer/Entrepreneur – Mission, Evangelism & Leadership Focus.

  • Youth & Young Adults Community Development Coordinator – Oasis Community Church, Biddulph - https://www.oasisbiddulph.org/
  • Chaplaincy, Interfaith and Programme Development – Inclusive Gathering Church Birmingham, Jazz Community Church, Birmingham and Birmingham University Chaplaincy.

Stream 2 (see below for stream descriptions) - Vocational and Discipleship Focus (Leadership)

 

This year we are offering a variety of roles under two key focus areas:

Stream 1: Pioneer/Entrepreneur – Mission, Evangelism & Leadership Focus – 1 to 2* years.

Year 1 takes the form of an apprentice year under the guide of a well established, experienced pioneer.

*Year 2 – In this year, in addition to a salary (comparable to year 1), some seed/start-up funding will be made available – the amount will be decided according to the pitch given by the project/young adult. (This amount will not exceed £10,000)

Qualifying for year two is not guaranteed and is subject to the writing of a pitch to a Methodist panel.

Criteria for a successful year two application will include:

  • sustainability
  • impact for the local community
  • wider impact on or for the national church body
  • well developed vision plan with budget, goals, objectives and obstacles clearly defined and thought through.

Decisions about which young adults will progress to the second year will be decided by Feb/March of each year.

 

Stream 2 - Vocational and Discipleship Focus (Leadership) – 1 Year

This is work within an explicitly faith based ministry or organisation supported by a local Methodist or affiliated ecumenical partner.

Participants would have a strong sense of call to full time Christian ministry going forward and this offers a year of learning on the job, training in leadership and having a spiritual director who will assist in their exploration of vocation either as a layperson within the church or an ordained minister.

 

All roles within The Methodist Internship Programme run from 7th September 2020 – August 30th 2021

It is a paid role – this is not just a placement or a year out - it is a job. We pay at least the living wage and other travel expenses associated with the placement.

Please note that we do not currently provide accommodation – should you be relocating we may be able to provide you with some contacts to help you in your search to secure housing. 

 

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

The Methodist Church will pay you a living wage, and you will be working at the offices or base of operations of the organisation you choose to apply for (details below). There will be 4 weekend residential leadership training events for all youth and young adults working in the Methodist Church throughout the year, as well as a dedicated mentor to ensure you are able to explore and examine the complexity and opportunities of expressing your faith through your life and career.

This is a year about setting and achieving goals, gaining specific skills, being mentored both in and outside the workplace, engaging in teamwork, intentional community and shared learning as well as professional, personal and spiritual development.

 

WHO CAN APPLY?

To apply for a post::

  • You must be at least 21 - 30 years old to apply.
  • You will be able to provide a spiritual and character reference from a church or faith community leader within the Christian tradition.

All applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK and must hold a current NI number, UK bank account and valid proof of ID (passport or British birth certificate, please go to www.gov.uk/check-an-employees-right-to-work-documents for more information).

You will be available to attend a ZOOM interview at some point in June/July 2020 – interview dates will be offered approximately 1 - 2 weeks after closing date if you have been shortlisted. (See closing dates on each individual role as dates vary).
