Methodist Chaplaincy Forum member, Closing on 8 November 2021

Are you passionate about chaplaincy? Are you interested in the development of chaplaincy in the Methodist Church and beyond? Do you want to make a difference as part of God’s mission in the Church for the sake of the world? Then we have the role for you.

The Ministries: Vocations and Worship team is part of the Methodist Church and committed to transforming people and the Church through development. The team is looking for people to volunteer as members of the Methodist Chaplaincy Forum in the following roles: agricultural chaplaincy lead, community chaplaincy lead, healthcare chaplaincy lead, higher education chaplaincy lead, schools/FE chaplaincy lead, prisons chaplaincy lead, later life chaplaincy lead, workplace chaplaincy lead.

What you need to be able to offer

  • A passion for chaplaincy
  • An understanding of what it’s like to be a chaplain in your sector
  • A warm friendly approach and collaborative working style
  • The ability to communicate and share wisdom and experience
  • A willingness to represent the views of chaplains in your sector
  • A willingness to connect with other chaplains in your sector to understand the wider experiences and needs of chaplains
  • A desire to support the needs of chaplains in your sector
  • A commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity and inclusion

What you will do

  • Attend up to 4 meetings of the Methodist Chaplaincy Forum
  • Complete any agreed work between meetings
  • Attend relevant connecting chaplains events
  • Be an advocate/champion for and promote the work of chaplaincy within the Methodist Church
  • Offer ideas and clear thinking to develop the work of chaplaincy
  • Bring creativity and help expand the possibilities of chaplaincy as part of God’s mission in the world

  • A strong commitment to developing and supporting chaplaincy
  • Support as a volunteer in a connexion-wide role
  • Travel and other reasonable expenses as necessary

What the Methodist Church needs to have/do

  • A clear DBS check before embarking on the role if deemed appropriate
  • Evidence of attendance at the Safeguarding leadership module
  • 2 references including one from your minister
  • An informal conversation to discuss your skills and expertise
  • To re-evaluate your work as a volunteer every 2 years
