Susanna Wesley is an iconic figure within Methodism, but how much is mythology and even misogyny? Most of all, what does she still have to say to us today?

A Bright Succession is a brilliant opportunity to explore these questions, and a range of related issues about gender, faith and heritage.

We welcome as our special guest Charles I Wallace, Chaplain Emeritus and Associate Professor, Williamette University (USA), editor of Susanna Wesley’s complete writings, and the 2019 anniversary publication, From A Mother’s Pen.

We are delighted to have as our host for the conference and keynote speaker Revd Dr Barbara Glasson, President Designate of the Methodist Conference 2019/2020, the seventh female President and third in sequence since 2017/2018.

In addition to the historic setting of the ancient city of Lincoln, the conference will include an excursion to Epworth, in the north of the county, for a celebration of Susanna Wesley on the site of her home for nearly 40 years, the Old Rectory. The celebration will include worship in the open air, a garden party (weather permitting!) and book signing of From a Mother’s Pen with the author.

Join us to explore our relationship with Susanna and the questions and inspiration her ‘succession’ gives today.
