Boobs are old news, says Methodist Church
The Methodist Church has welcomed reports that The Sun newspaper
will no longer feature topless women on Page Three.
The 2014 Methodist Conference
pledged its support for the No More Page 3 campaign when it met
in Birmingham in July. The Conference called on Methodists to sign
the campaign's petition. The Methodist Church was the first major
UK Church to lend its support to the movement that is also backed
by the Girls' Brigade, Mumsnet and the British Youth Council.
Rachel Allison, a young Methodist who presented the proposal to
the 2014 Methodist Conference, said: "This is great news and a
small step on the journey to changing attitudes towards women in
the media. The removal of Page Three from the Sun would send a
clear message that the objectification of women is not acceptable
in our society. Boobs are not news!"
