Lord Leslie Griffiths named Chair of Methodist Heritage Committee

Lord Leslie Griffiths of Pembrey and Burry Port has beenappointed Chair of the newly formed Methodist HeritageCommittee.

The Committee will work to better involve the Church's heritage inits engagement with contemporary society. By telling the stories ofMethodism more effectively and supporting Methodist heritage sitesas places of pilgrimage and spirituality, the committee willaddress how historic locations can be effective in Christianmission.

Lord Griffiths said; "In our post-colonial, post-modern world thequestion of identity looms large. Our heritage reminds us who weare and gives us the courage to tell our story and to serve thepresent age. I'm delighted to have a part to play in thisimaginative new venture."

Lord Griffiths is a Methodist minister, Labour peer andbroadcaster. He is a Knight of the Order of St. John and anHonorary Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral. He was President of theMethodist Conference 1994-1995. Among his interests he listslaughter and fellowship as well as literature, theology andsport.

A full-time Methodist Heritage Officer will be appointed to theChurch's Connexional Team in the New Year, to convene and workcollaboratively with the Committee.
