Tributes for Cardinal Thomas Winning
The President of the Methodist Conference, Rev Inderjit Bhogal, said today that the death of Cardinal Thomas Winning was "a sad and tragic loss, not only for the Roman Catholic Church but for the Church community of all denominations. His death will leave a great vacuum in Church life. I assure the Roman Catholic community of the prayers of the Methodist Church at this sad time".
The Methodist Church's ecumenical representative in Scotland, Rev Andrew MacKenzie, said: "What an important figure Cardinal Winning was to the Scottish Church. He was a towering figure that put Catholics in Scotland back on the map. As the Pope said, he was a man of the people."
Cardinal Thomas Winning, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Glasgow, died on 17 June.
