80th anniversaries of Kristallnacht and the Kindertransport
On 3rd December, The President and Vice President visited Lambeth Palace to share in a commemoration of the 80th anniversaries of Kristallnacht and the Kindertransport. The event was organised by the Council of Christians and Jews. Those gathered heard from The Archbishop of Canterbury, The Chief Rabbi, from Elizabeth Harris-Sawczenko (Director of CCJ). A panel was chaired by Caroline Wyatt and included Ruth, who arrived on the Kindertransport in 1939, Lord Pickles and a description of the social and political reality at the time of the acceptance of 10,000 Jewish children into the UK in the run up to WWII and the deep horrors of the Holocaust.
We were called to reflect on the rise of the right and of anti-semitism today and to think of where we draw lines around compassion today.
