Organist’s 100th birthday - May Hill Methodist Church

The most senior active organist at May Hill Methodist Church, Joyce Morse, celebrated her 100th birthday recently and received a card from the Queen. Joyce entertained the congregation by playing Sunday morning worship.

Joyce was born in Gloucester and spent her career as a teacher for 42 years. She enjoyed being an organist at Longhope Baptist Church and also helped out occasionally at May Hill Parish Church. When the organist at May Hill Methodist Church retired in 1980, Joyce took over.

Despite her significant birthday, Joyce has no plans to retire from her duties. Minister at May Hill Methodist Church the Revd Denise Hargreaves said: "Joyce's contribution to worship is unrivalled. She is an amazing lady and has a heart of gold!" Joyce Morse is pictured with the Revd Dr James Tebbutt and her 100th birthday telegram from the Queen.
