The Sunday Soak
The tradition of the Sunday night bath to start the week refreshed and relaxed has been revived at Rhyddings Methodist Church, West Pennine Moors Circuit.
The Sunday Soak is a contemporary evening service in the presence of God without any of the ‘normal’ trappings. A different type of worship space has been created with comfy chairs and a creative worship focus. The atmosphere is quiet and reflective.
The Soak starts and ends in prayer but the central part of the worship is open and flexible with contemporary music. Scripture passages are available to be read, meditated or contemplated on.
The Revd Louise Makin commented: “We offer time and space, to receive from and listen to God. In a busy world just setting aside some time, without the structure of a traditional worship service, is quite liberating but also challenging. There is no requirement to ‘do’ just to ‘be’.”
Part of the success of the Sunday Soak has been through the internet, with the use of Facebook and an online Bible study on the lectionary readings for the week.
