So you're interested in chaplaincy? Online event
Chaplaincy is part of God's mission in the world. Those called to be chaplains are rooted in the Church, but spend their time being guests in places outside the church building. It's one of the most varied callings - you will find chaplains in places from hospitals, schools and prisons to shops, gyms, airports and farms. Wherever people are, there are opportunities for chaplains.
While there are great possibilities to being a chaplain, there are also some important things to be aware of. Chaplains represent the Church and need to develop good relationships with those who may have little contact with a church. This may be the only opportunity others have to meet someone who is part of the Church.
There is no one route into chaplaincy. It varies based on the person exploring their calling, the local church, what chaplaincies are already developed in the local area and what needs there are in the local community. Chaplains are always 'sent' by a local church, which ensures they have a strong support network, and always look to develop through learning - so they are equipped to serve others.
Most chaplains are volunteers who offer a portion of their time to chaplaincy. Those who serve in full-time employment are in the minority. Chaplains can be lay or ordained.
Chaplaincy is demanding, but it is incredibly rewarding. It's why chaplains #LoveThisCalling.
This event aims to help people understand what chaplaincy is, hear from chaplains about their calling and their role, and begin to think about how to discern a calling and what the next steps might be.

What do you learn about Jesus’ character from his ministry alongside other people?
Who can you share this film with?
Pause and pray
Jesus, In the quiet we bring to mind something of your character, and ask that we too may learn to be like you. Amen
Each Wednesday we are posting a film which is for you to be able to pause and take a moment to consider what Jesus is calling to you at this time. We are calling this Worship Wednesdays!
The short videos we will be posting over the next 14 weeks on Wednesday will all be from our friends at The Vine (produced by Twelvebaskets and with the support of a grant from Yorkshire West Methodist District).
You can sign up to receive The Vine at Home or find out how your circuit can subscribe to lectionary-based resources from The Vine.

Vocations Sunday 2021 - Sunday 2 May
The Gospel reading for Vocations Sunday is John 15:1-9 and what we read there is both hopeful and also makes clear that we need to change.
We are celebrating the ministry of chaplains, their ministry is outside of the walls of church – what can we all learn from that which offers hope, and in what ways can we change to be more outward looking?
