High Street Methodist Church has always worked to communicate the love of God to their local community and beyond. In December 2024, after a considerable time in project development, they finally received consent and completed their fundraising for their Shaped for Mission project. Work started, and the new look church space opened on Easter Sunday 20th April 2025.
The project aimed to unlock the cavernous potential of their main church space. To achieve this, the 20th century pews were removed and replacement chairs, supplied by Trinity Church Furniture, which are modern, comfortable and light-weight were introduced. This has enabled the church to configure the space to support any event, or activity that the church has for mission.
Different layouts can be used for different services, and for those larger-scale activities like children's or youth events, or conferences or carnivals where all the chairs can be cleared to open up the building.
In addition, a new lighting system has been introduced, designed by a lighting specialist to meet the different needs that the church's worship services and general events demand. New energy-efficient and totally comfortable light fittings along with custom-made window blinds will mean they can change the atmosphere in the church easily to suit different needs.
Also completed were a number of essential repairs including re-painting and parquet floor renewal as well as the replacement of worn parts of the dais. A fire escape will also be widened to improve safety and capacity.
