calton-young“He’s really been the true Mr. Music of United Methodism,” says the Revd Don Saliers, one of Calton "Sam" Young's long-time collaborators.

Aged 94, Young has produced a new collection of hymn and song arrangements: Today I Live: Hymns and Songs of Remembrance and Hope”

The former editor of The Methodist Hymnal and The United Methodist Hymnal has gathered a gathered and set songs appropriate for memorial services and funerals, but also for worship services where death and mourning is a theme.

For Saliers, the Candler School of Theology theologian-in-residence, Young has provided the Church with a resource for the pandemic and beyond. He says, “This latest collection is a gift out of his sense of mortality and how music is so crucial to our spiritual life."
