A new Christmas resource has arrived from the Methodist Modern Art Collection. Entitled “Carols, Paintings and Prayers for Christmas”, this attractive resource for visual reflection is similar in style to the very well received Poems, Paintings and Prayers for Holy Week and Easter produced earlier in the year.

Realising that this Christmas will be rather different for many of us, the Methodist Modern Art Collection management team has gathered together eight pictures from the collection and partnered them with words from Singing the Faith and Singing the Faith Plus.

Accompanied by prayers and short guiding thoughts, Carols, Paintings and Prayers for Christmas is taking advantage of our recent endeavours to explore new ways of worshipping online. Katharine Farnham-Dear writes, “Like all good art, the Nativity pictures in the Collection are not just visually attractive. They are often thought provoking and sometimes challenging.”

This resource not only introduces us to images that may be unfamiliar and stimulating, but also allows us to spend some more time with carols, old and new, and to experience their meaning and beauty afresh.
