Enabling Participation

What practical help is available to enable children and young people’s participation in 3Generate 365?

  • Explore the resources available in the 3Generate 365 Toolbox and use them to have conversations with your children and young people.
  • Attend the Tune In for Leader events so that you can share learning and draw learning from other Group Leaders.
  • Encourage your children and young people to download the 3Generate App when this is available (or visit the section of the website where alternative content is available for those who do not have a smartphone).
  • Have a look at the App/web pages yourself and share the content with your group – especially those who cannot access it for themselves.

What are the options for those who don't have a smart phone to access the 3Generate App – is it also available elsewhere? How do we help those connect who have no access to computers/internet?

  • As far as we possibly can, we will be replicating the content of the App on the children and young people’s section of the 3Generate website.
  • You might want to have a look at the App/web pages yourself and share the content with your group – especially those who cannot access it for themselves.
  • Don’t forget that 3Generate 365 is primarily about the local church in dialogue, prayer and action with children and young people – the work you do with them as a local Group Leader, and the support and encouragement they receive from the wider church, is the most important aspect of their engagement in 3Generate 365.

How can younger children and those without social media engage and get the most out of the year? What consents will be needed?

  • Younger children, with the permission of parents/guardians, can still download and engage with the 3Generate App – which is completely safe and anonymous and does not share personal data.
  • As far as we possibly can, we will be replicating the content of the App on the children and young people’s section of the 3Generate website.
  • Video content will be available on the 3GenerateTV YouTube channel.
  • Before a Group Leader shares personal data of children and young people to us (through completing registration), they must receive parental consent (example).
  • Don’t forget that 3Generate 365 is primarily about the local church in dialogue, prayer and action with children and young people – the work you do with them as a local Group Leader, and the support and encouragement they receive from the wider church, is the most important aspect of their engagement in 3Generate 365.

Can we host watch parties for the Tune In?

If each member of your group has access to a good enough broadband connection, or if you are able to meet face to face for either of the Tune In events, then this would be a really great thing to do!

What happens before then for children and young people to feel engaged and excited having registered in September?

  • Don’t forget that 3Generate 365 is primarily about the local church in dialogue, prayer and action with children and young people – the work you do with them as a local Group Leader, and the support and encouragement they receive from the wider church, is the most important aspect of their engagement in 3Generate 365.

Please do

  • Explore the resources available in the 3Generate 365 Toolbox and use them to have conversations with your children and young people.
  • Encourage your children and young people to download the 3Generate App when this is available (or visit the section of the website where alternative content is available for those who do not have a smartphone).

Is there a programme for what else will be happening in addition to the November Tune In for children and young people?

  • 3Generate 365 is primarily about the local church in dialogue, prayer and action with children and young people – the work you do with them as a local Group Leader, and the support and encouragement they receive from the wider church, is the most important aspect of their engagement in 3Generate 365.
  • Please also look out for Agents of Change events, which will be running in 2021, alongside 3Generate 365.
  • You can find all the events we are planning to run until January on our dates for the diary

Will there be any way of creating the community and friendship-building between children and young people of different places which used to happen at the 3Generate event?

  • The main way we will be creating a sense of 3Generate community is through the 3Generate App, social media and the children and young people’s page on the website.
  • Friendship-building will hopefully happen best during the local Tune In events.
  • When you have completed registration for your 3Generate 365 group we will be in contact with you, to ask you to consider signing your group up as part of a 3Generate satellite group, who will be shaping and delivering the 3Generate event in 2021. This could be an additional way of feeling connected into the wider 3Generate community.
  • Please look out for soon-to-be-released information about ‘Tune In to God, Fridays @5:17’, which is when we will be encouraging children and young people to be praying at the same time and across the country. They can do this on their own, or with others (should that be possible) and they can pray at another time of the week if Friday evening isn’t possible for them. The important thing is to set aside some intentional time to spend with God, and to know that there are children and young people within the 3Generate community who are all doing the same.
  • Please tell us your stories as you and your groups engage with 3Generate 365 so that we can share these stories with others – this will also help us to create a sense of wider community.

What social media channels will be used to interact with young people?

Back to page content

When is the first event for children and young people and what are the timings?

The Youth President will be hosting Tune In events for children and young people on Saturday 21 November 2020 and Saturday 30 January 2021. These events will be broadcast live on the 3Generate 365 web page at 4pm and also on the 3GenerateTV YouTube channel.

Back to page content

Will a recording of the Tune In for children and young people be available after the event for those who are unavailable on the date and time of the session?

Yes, on the 3GenerateTV YouTube channel.

Back to page content

What happens if there are only two or three young people (or fewer) in a district when it comes to breaking out into district Tune In events?

We are encouraging our District Ambassadors to think creatively about how they facilitate Tune In events and other activities in their District, and to think about what might best suit their own district. This will include thinking about how they support engagement of children and young people in lots of different contexts and may even involve two districts linking together.

Could we have one short, ready-made document to send/give out to children and young people that explains 3Generate 365 and how to get involved etc?

Support for Group Leaders

What resources should we be looking at, as our groups re-join face to face?

We would encourage you to look at the 3Generate 365 Toolbox and to participate in/watch again the webinars that are on offer.

Back to page content

Where can we watch the webinars again?

These are available on The Well Learning Hub YouTube channel and also on the online events page of our website.

Is it possible to share some content details for the Tune In for children and young people, so we can plan our programme around it?

  • The content of the Tune In will be a mixture of interviews, challenges, worship and prayer, as well as sharing important information. We would encourage you to watch the Tune In and spend some time reflecting with children and young people afterwards with regards to which bits of the Tune In they found the most interesting.
  • We would encourage you to use the resources in the 3Generate 365 Toolbox when planning the programme.
  • In preparation for the November Tune In you might want to watch the candidate videos for the elections on 3GenerateTV and use the Voting Matters resource to help your children and young people think about how they use their vote.

Back to page content

Is there a reason why all the webinars are in the working day?

We are currently planning two additional webinars for 2021 on the subject of including children and young people with additional needs. In response to this query we will aim to host these on an evening and monitor engagement to see which option seems to suit the most people.

Back to page content

Can we have a sheet for parents to help them support their child to engage?

We will explore this, it is a great idea! At the moment parents might find the resource Accompanying your children, young people and leaders on the 3Generate 365 journey useful.

When do the Group Leaders’ newsletters go out?

At the moment e-newsletters are sent to Group Leaders, who have registered interest or complete registration, every two to three weeks. We are trying our best to strike the correct balance between providing you with timely information, whilst not flooding your inbox too frequently. Please make sure to check your spam/junk folder, if you are not receiving these please notify 3gengroups@methodistchurch.org.uk

365 Dates & Details

When does 3Generate 365 start?

It has already started! We are encouraging you and your groups to begin to work through the resources available in the Toolbox whenever you are ready.

Back to page content

When do we need to complete the list of children/young people and leaders?

  • If your children and young people intend to vote in the elections for the Youth President and Youth Reps then they will need to be registered by 15 November 2020. This will enable us to do what is necessary to ensure it is a fair election process.
  • If you and your group miss the deadline for registering to vote, then you can join in with the 3Generate 365 journey whenever you are ready. However, we will need registrations in place in order for children and young people to fully participate in District Tune In events from January 2021 onwards.
  • Children and young people are able to download the 3Generate App, watch video content on 3GenerateTV and engage with their Youth President and Youth Reps via social media without being registered. As a Group Leader you can access the webinars and the resources in the Toolbox. You will also be invited to join in with the Tune In events for Group Leaders, as long as you have completed the initial expression of interest.

Is there a way for individuals (children and young people in ones and twos in churches with limited or no youth work) to register?

As long as a responsible adult within the local church, and known to the church leadership, is willing to take on the task of registering children and young people they will still be able to engage. This could be, for instance, a Church Steward, a parent or a lay worker.

Exploring the 365 Theme

The Youth President’s theme, which the children and young people voted for, is ‘God’s world, our home’, linked to creation and the climate. Has this been changed to Tune In?

  • In the last few years the Youth President theme and the 3Generate theme have always run concurrently (eg. last year the 3Generate theme was Where is God in your story? whilst the Youth President theme was Jesus loves all). Therefore God’s world, our home will still be Phoebe’s theme for her year as Youth President.
  • If a child or young person in your group has a specific question or comment about Phoebe’s theme or climate justice, please do encourage them to contact Phoebe (youthpresident@methodistchurch.org.uk).

Back to page content

Can we have more information about the plans for follow the Youth President theme, ‘God’s world, our home’?

Phoebe will start to release information about her theme, God’s world our home, from November 2020 onwards. You might also find it helpful to take a look at the Green Agents of Change web page.
