Policy and practical help
Code of Safer Working Practice with Children and Young People
This code outlines the conduct expected of anyone undertaking duties with children and young people within the Methodist Church. The content of this code forms part of the Safeguarding Policy, Procedures and Guidance for the Methodist Church, which means it is therefore required practice. The code applies to all those working in a Methodist context. Download it here.
Good Practice Guidance
The Methodist Church Safeguarding Policy (Section 6) has information on facilitating activities and spaces with children and young people. This includes information on record keeping, risk assessments, staffing levels, consent and working with vulnerable children. Download it here.
Information on organising events and other sessions
The Organising Events resource has consent forms and risk assessment templates for day events and residentials. Find resource here.
Social Media Guidance
Social media can be an excellent way to communicate. There are a variety of platforms that leaders need to be aware of, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and YouTube. Some of these are appropriate for supporting the relationship between children/young people and their leader, but some are not. Click here for a guidance document covering all of these.
