Street Child World Cup in Brazil

As part of our support of the Street Child World Cup, the Methodist Church in Brazil was encouraged to develop their ministry through sport with young people with the support of a World Church Grant for Mission and Ministry.

The main initiative was the John Wesley Cup, which is a football tournament involving Methodist Young People from all over Brazil. The event took place on the 4-5 April 2014 at the Methodist Church in Vila Isabel in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The young people were challenged to take a prophetic stand to change the reality for children living on the streets and implement sports projects combining evangelism and social action.

The main pastor of Methodist Church in Vila Isabel, Edson Sardinha, who closely followed all the activities, said: "It's so important that the youth of the church use sports as a tool to reach lives. We praise God for the opportunity to participate in this project".
