An alert from Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, General Secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches

Dear sisters and brothers across Africa,

Prayer remains our critical pivot in Christian living and witness. Through prayer we express our
concerns and challenges to our living God for guidance and intervention. Apostle Paul in his
epistle to the Philippians 4:6 encourages us that, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
We are constantly reminded to pray ceaselessly, show love to our adversaries, and pray for
those who persecute us (1 Thessalonian 5:17 & Matthew 5:44). These tasks may sound difficult,
but made easy by the kind of faith we embody, that does the extraordinary in the eyes of
humanity as exemplified by Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3).

We have heard from our sisters and brothers in Zimbabwe of the protracted sociopolitical,
economic, and humanitarian crises exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Many
of our sisters and brothers are experiencing starvation, brutality, oppression, and repression
on daily basis. We are worried and greatly disturbed by this situation, but with profound faith
and hope that the leaders will allow God’s spirit to lead them to embrace and entrench a
culture of ‘Just Peace’ that allows for full expression and exercise of freedom with
responsibility by all citizens, without any form of dehumanizing reaction by civil authority.

We call on you and your congregants to pray for Zimbabwe, especially those with privileged
authority to listen to the cries of the people for Just Peace, knowing that the hearts of the
kings are in the hands of God (Proverbs 21:1). We should continue to pray for healing,
reconciliation, and restoration in Zimbabwe.

May our loving and merciful God hear the prayers we make this day. Amen.
