O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord! (v. 5)

Isaiah 2:1-5 Thursday 4 December 2025

Psalm 16

Background
Isaiah offers a breathtaking vision: nations streaming to God’s mountain, swords turned into ploughshares, war learning replaced by peace. This is the world as God intends: a world where justice and reconciliation flourish. It is a vision of hope, not yet realised but promised.

Advent is a season of hope. We light candles against the darkness, proclaiming that God’s light is stronger than the shadows. Isaiah’s call – “Come, let us walk in the light” – is an invitation to live now in the reality we long for. Readiness is not passive waiting; it is active walking, choosing peace over conflict, generosity over greed.

As we prepare for Christ, the Prince of Peace, we ask: how can we embody this vision today? Every act of kindness, every word of reconciliation, is a step towards God’s mountain. We become gifts of peace in a world hungry for it.

To Ponder:

  • Where do you long to see peace today?
  • What practical steps can you take to 'walk in the light' today?

Prayer
Guide our steps in your light, Lord of peace. Make us instruments of hope and builders of peace. Amen.
