Dunwell Ghanaian Methodist Church, Telford

17 May 2022

In the presence of the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Revd Dr. Paul K. Boafo; the Ghanaian High Commissioner for the UK; the Secretary of Conference from the Methodist Church in Britain, Revd Dr. Jonathan Hustler and Methodist and ecumenical colleagues from across the district and the country, the new Dunwell Ghanaian Methodist Church was inaugurated at Ketley within the Telford Circuit.

The event took place on the 15th May with over 200 honoured guests and congregation present.

This is an historic moment for the Methodist Church. The new church congregation will both serve the Ghanaian Methodist community in Britain and be a witness to the Methodist Church in Britain of the presence, growth and witness of the global Methodist community. The joyous celebration of Communion lasted three hours after which all present joined together for refreshments and fellowship.

Rachel Parkinson, Chair of the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District of the Methodist Church, commented, "As we processed into church behind a robed choir singing "The Church's One Foundation" I heard someone comment "It's very formal!" I think they must have revised their view ten minutes later as a time of prayer and praise broke out into singing, dancing and drumming. The blend of the formal and reverential with the spontaneous and ecstatic continued seamlessly through the service, which was followed by the usual generous hospitality. I am looking forward to everything this new church might bring to the Circuit and District - and to what we might bring to them.”
