Methodist Church launches national Christmas campaign: “You are a gift. Made with love.”

04 December 2025

The Methodist Church in Britain has launched its national Advent and Christmas campaign with its first-ever outdoor advertising promotion, taking their message to the streets of London.

Throughout the first two weeks of December, posters carrying the theme “Gifted” and the strapline “You are a gift. Made with love.” will appear across Transport for London bus stops, roadside displays and other high-footfall locations. The campaign encourages passers-by to reflect on the ways they bring light to others at this time of year – whether through generosity, service, hospitality or simple presence.

The visual depicts a man collapsed contentedly on a sofa after serving Christmas dinner to 23 guests, accompanied by the warm message: “Whatever you’ve given this Christmas…You are a gift. Made with love.”

The initiative points people towards a specially created microsite, youareagift.co.uk, which invites visitors to reflect on how they themselves might be a gift to their community, family or workplace this season. The site also connects people with next steps exploring how they are a gift, how church is a gift, and how Jesus is the gift. Reflections, prayers and resources designed to support spiritual curiosity or re-engagement with church life are also available.

“Christmas tells us that God creates and invites us to see every person as precious and full of possibility. By placing this message across London, we hope to reach people who may never enter a church building yet still long to know they matter, that they are loved, and that they have something beautiful to offer the world.”

The Revd Dr Jonathan Hustler, Secretary of the Methodist Conference

Traditionally known for its social justice work, community presence and grassroots mission, the Methodist Church says this public-facing Christmas campaign reflects its desire to meet people where they are – literally on the pavements, shopping streets and bus routes.

Kings Cross Methodist Church features in Christmas ad

As part of the wider Christmas campaign, a 2025 Christmas ad has also been released. The film follows the real-life story of Sue, a member of King’s Cross Methodist Church – home to a vibrant Chinese Methodist community – as she discovers faith through a chance invitation at a local restaurant.

As her story unfolds, Sue realises that not only is the church community a gift to her, but that she can be a gift to others. The video will be promoted across social media in short-form versions, with the opportunity to view the full ad on Methodist Church social media channels and on the youareagift.co.uk microsite.

“This campaign is a simple reminder that the Christmas story begins not in grandeur, but in everyday humanity. Our hope is that people feel encouraged and uplifted, in what can be a difficult season for many, to discover how they can be a gift to others.”

New contemporary versions of classic carols

As established over the past two years, the release of new contemporary recordings of classic carols across streaming services will continue. This year, new versions of Joy to the World and In the Bleak Midwinter – titled Joy! (Everything Must Sing) and The Bleak Midwinter – have been recorded, featuring Methodist singers across the tracks.

“We’ve re-imagined these much-loved carols in a fresh musical style that sits comfortably alongside contemporary playlists, while keeping the depth of the original words. Our hope is that they become songs people can share easily with friends, family and church communities as part of their Christmas celebrations.”
