Global Communities Ministries Sport Day 2025

Travelling from Telford, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, and Greater London, over 350 people from the cultural and language fellowship groups across the Connexion gathered at Broadwater Farm Park in North London on Saturday 31 May 2025, for the Festival of Sports, Culture, and Food.

05 June 2025

Women, men, children, and youth competed in their respective categories for the 100m race, egg and lime race, sack race, and tug of war. Lots of laughs, smiles, and cheering filled the early summer air. Among all participants, over 75% were children and youth.

The football competition was the most serious of all the games. Teams from Edmonton, Telford, Milton Keynes, St Mark’s Methodist Church, and Wesley Chapel played great games. Milton Keynes and St Mark’s reached the final; both teams were highly competitive. The penalty shoot-out could not settle the game, so it went into a ‘sudden death’ round. Milton Keynes emerged as the champion!

Food sharing was one of the highlights. The incredible smell of barbecue and the rich flavours of homemade cuisine with beef, chicken, legumes, plantains, and rice, along with salads and fruits, definitely showcased different cultures and satisfied everyone’s palate.

Singing songs in mother tongues, dancing with swing and sway, and playing board games from home added to the fun. Chatting and laughing made it feel like a big family gathering on this beautiful half-term weekend.

Four of this year’s Youth Reps from “3 Generate” travelled to London to take part in the festival, joining races, tasting foods, and chatting with people.

Thank you to all participating fellowships: the Filipino Methodist Fellowship, the Nigerian Methodist Fellowship, the Francophone Methodist Fellowship, the Ghanaian Methodist Fellowship and the Zimbabwe Methodist Fellowship; Dunwell Ghanaian Congregation in Telford; the Milton Keynes Congregation, representatives from the Brazilian Methodist Fellowship and the King’s Cross Methodist Church Cantonese Congregation, leaders, Youth Reps, friends and neighbours for making this a very special day.

A big heartfelt thank you to Revd William Davis and Revd Stephen Poxon for organising this wonderful event and their ongoing support to the language fellowship groups through the Connexional Global Communities work!
