Lord Khan visits Padiham Road Methodist Church

22 April 2025

The Minister and people of Padiham Road Methodist Church in Burnley were delighted to welcome the government Minister for Faith, Lord Wajid Khan, to their 9:30am Good Friday Service.

The service, led by the Circuit Superintendent Rev’d Rick Ormrod, was a simple service of hymns, prayers and readings narrating the passion account from Luke’s gospel.

After the service Lord Khan said that he had found it very moving and especially commented on the introit sung by the choir.

After the service tea or coffee and hot cross buns were served and Lord Kan took the opportunity to talk with members of the congregation. He asked particularly about the church’s role in the local community and members told him that we basically service as the local community centre, with groups like the Wednesday Open Door Café, Brownies and Guides, Parents and Toddlers, a Craft Group, Slimming World and a whole host of others meeting regularly on our premises.

Lord Khan was also told of the good links between the church and local schools like Wellfield Primary school and Ightenhill school, and of the church Bible study group and monthly prayer group.

There was also a personal reunion for Lord Khan with a teacher who taught at the secondary school he attended, Mrs Kathryn Yates, who is the Church’s organist and who also serves as a Church Steward and Property Secretary.

Padiham Road Methodist Church were blessed by Lord Khan’s visit and assured him that he would be very welcome to join us again in the future.
