My ordination story: Rachel Pinkney

Rachel is currently serving as a probationer presbyter in the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Circuit in the North East of England.
Her journey into ministry has been shaped by a long-standing sense of call, first experienced during a Methodist Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) service in the 1990s.
Although she initially chose not to act on this call, the sense of vocation never left her. Over time, and after roles as a local preacher and lay worker, Rachel candidated for ordained ministry, feeling that the time had come to respond more fully.
Rachel’s faith has developed through both personal and professional experiences.
She speaks of learning through family life, work, and a variety of relationships—particularly with those outside the church—which broadened her perspective and deepened her understanding of God's love.
During her probation, Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer, a period that brought significant reflection.
She found strength and comfort in the care of her church, the NHS, and her wider support network, describing this time as one in which she discovered again the depth of God's presence and provision.
Rachel sees God most clearly in the people who live out their faith with quiet dedication. She is inspired by those in her churches who, despite difficult personal and economic circumstances, remain committed to sharing God’s love in everyday ways. Ministry for Rachel isn’t simply a job—it’s who she is.
Rachel will be ordained at St Chad’s in Shrewsbury, surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues who have supported her throughout her journey.
For Rachel, ministry is more than a role—it is a way of life. She hopes that others exploring a sense of call will be encouraged to take that first step, knowing that God remains present and patient throughout the journey.
