Walkers are being encouraged to reflect on their faith and take part in a new pilgrimage trail amid the beautiful scenery of the Channel Islands.
The Alderney Pilgrim Trail is the first of a series planned across the islands which will be a network of activities across Sark, Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey – all exploring the spiritual dimension of life with a view to beginning new Christian communities.

There are two routes offered on Alderney, a shorter walk of around two miles and a longer one of about six miles. They take in some of the most scenic sights of the island including the peace garden, the path overlooking Crabby Bay, the inner harbour, the boatyard and Braye beach.
A guided prayer walk is also available, with specific prayers and reflections offered at different stops on the route.
The President of the Conference, the Revd Richard Andrew, visited Alderney on 25 and 26 April, where he preached a Sunday sermon to mark the Methodist Church’s 175th anniversary of its presence on the island.
Alderney church minister, the Revd David Stretton, said the new walk would help Methodists connect with the wider community and urged people of any faith, or none, to take part.
He said: “We've developed Alderney's pilgrim trail as a gift to everyone who lives on or visits Alderney and hope that, through walking it, they'll discover something of how God is present in their lives.
“We'll also be leading guided prayer walks along the pilgrim trail as part of our efforts to engage with the wider community.
“Today, pilgrimages are not always religious; many people use them as an opportunity to reflect on important aspects of their lives. The essential elements are choosing a destination, setting an intention and walking with mindfulness and purpose.
“Here, on Alderney, we live in a beautiful place. Our unique blend of coastline, beaches, countryside and extensive footpaths make it well-suited to personal exploration and contemplation. And its small population means that it’s easy to find space on your own – peace and quiet is a commodity that we have plenty of!
“As part of my work for the Methodist Church, I’ve created a pilgrim trail for everyone – people of all faiths or none.”
A special leaflet and map are available at the tourist office, airport and the Methodist church in Alderney.
