Wesley Hotel Camden Rated ‘Excellent’ for sustainability

21 January 2026

The Wesley Camden in north London, has received an ‘Excellent’ assessment under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for its sustainable design and its environmental practices.  The Wesley Camden shares its building with Camden Methodist Church and is part of the Wesley Hotel Group. The group, who also operate The Wesley Euston, are known for their commitment to sustainable practices and social responsibility. They are part of the Methodist family.

BREEAM is the world-leading sustainability assessment method for the built environment and infrastructure. The “Excellent” rating has resulted from careful management alongside using technology and design that offers energy-efficiency with low environmental impact while ensuring the guests enjoy a comfortable, guilt-free stay.

Among the environmental initiatives are a system that ensures rooms are only preheated when due to be occupied. Water-saving devices are installed throughout the hotel and The Wesley does not use gas, which significantly reduces the hotel’s carbon emissions.

Along with sustainability, the hotel has also worked to preserve its historic features with fixtures and fittings from the Green Guide, who provide sustainable building materials. Parquet flooring, reused balcony metalwork and stained glass windows have been kept to ensure the building’s character. The Wesley Camden has even installed bat boxes to encourage local wildlife and biodiversity.

James Barr, General Manager of The Wesley Camden, said “We’re really proud to achieve BREEAM Excellent status – it’s a reflection of all the care and thought our team puts into making The Wesley Camden sustainable, while still ensuring our guests have a fantastic experience.

“Sustainability is one of the pillars of our business at The Wesley and, crucially, it aligns with The Methodist Church’s aspirational Net Zero goal by 2030. Being a mixed use building, The Wesley Camden Town and Camden Methodist Church is a perfect example of what can be accomplished in partnerships. The BREEAM Excellent award is a significant step in the right direction and an achievement by all concerned. From saving energy and water to reusing materials and supporting local wildlife, these small choices make a real difference for our guests, the community and the planet.

“Our Methodist visions and values are the cornerstones of The Wesley hotels.”
