Connecting Chaplains

There are a number of events and opportunities for chaplains to connect to one another – at the moment these are all offered online. Chaplains can share their experiences, offer mutual support and pray together. Anyone involved in chaplaincy is welcome to be part of these, whether you are lay or ordained, work full- or part-time, paid or unpaid, Methodist or not. You may not even have the official title ‘chaplain’ but find yourself in a role that involves elements of chaplaincy. You are welcome to share in these.

Many of these events are offered in collaboration with other organisations or different parts of the Methodist connexion. Even though some of the events are hosted by particular regions or localities, they are offered for the whole connexion and open to chaplains across the UK.

Connexional Connecting Chaplains Gathering

Quarterly Zoom hosted by Ministries: Vocations and Worship Team and Southern and Islands Region

This UK-wide quarterly event is open to anyone involved in chaplaincy. Together we connect with God, connect with the chaplaincy issues, and connect with each other. At these events, there is an opportunity to pray together, hear from some chaplains about a particular topic in chaplaincy, and then share together with others involved in chaplaincy.

Next event: Tuesday 9th March, 7.30pm – 9.00pm

  • Connecting with God
The President of Conference, the Revd Richard Teal, will be leading our March devotions.
  • Connecting with the issues
Our March topic will be How can we support the mental wellbeing of those we serve? and we'll hear a short message from three chaplains about their experiences.
  • Connecting with each other
A good amount of our time together will be in small breakout rooms where you will have an opportunity to connect with other chaplains and reflect on the theme of the event.

Take Time for Chaplains

Weekly Zoom hosted by Ministries: Vocations and Worship Team and Clive McKie from Take Time

Each week Clive leads us through a mediation on the gospel reading for the following Sunday from the Revised Common Lectionary. The guided mediations are inspired by Ignatian spirituality and mindfulness. The meditation lasts about 15 minutes and for those that wish to stay, there’s a guided 30-minute opportunity to share and listen to each other’s experiences.

Each Monday at 12.45pm – 1.00pm or 1.30pm (Starting in April)

Chaplaincy Tea/Coffee and Chat Opportunities

Opportunities for those involved in chaplaincy to pop along and meet other chaplains, talk about their work (or anything else that may be of interest), share stories, offer mutual support, chat about issues that affect chaplaincy and learn from one another. There’s no agenda to these and you can come for as long as you like and engage in a way that you are comfortable with. They are intended to connect chaplains who are involved in similar activities and we hope that everyone finds a place where they feel at home (some might even find more than one). These are not fixed, so as our work develops, we might find there’s opportunities to offer other sessions.
