2026
9 March - 5 April 2026
From Darkness ... To Light
St Mary's Guildford, Surrey
From Darkness … To Light is the title chosen for this exhibition of 25 works from the Methodist Modern Art Collection this Spring in Guildford. The exhibition will run from 9 March to 5 April 2026. The exhibition will set the scene by showcasing some of Christ’s ministry and, staged during the final part of Lent, will focus on Christ’s journey to the Cross, Resurrection and Pentecost.
The host will be St Mary’s mediaeval church in Guildford, a joint Methodist and Anglican place of worship.
A full programme of events are planned including poetry readings, musical performances and Lent reflections inspired by a number of the paintings.
The team at St Mary’s have produced an inspiring video (see below) showing the historic church transformed into an art gallery. Take a look and see what you’re missing.
It’s not too late to visit the exhibition which runs through until Easter Sunday – for public viewing times please check-out the Holy Trinity & St Mary’s Guildford website.
Please also take a look at Alwyn Marriage’s Art UK curation From Paint to Poetry. Alwyn offers poems and reflections on twelve of the artworks to be displayed at Guildford, and illustrates how we can gain a greater understanding and experience of art.
