Scared
Feeling scared is a natural sensation that alerts our brains to the need to choose ‘fight or flight’ – to stay and defend or to run away.

If you are recognising feelings of being scared, then take a moment to thank your body for its natural instinct to protect you. It is working to keep you safe.
Sometimes the things we are scared of are not so rational, but the sensations are every bit as real. Knowing that God is with us can be a source of comfort even when we feel anxious, worried or scared.
Your situation matters. It is important to you and it is important to God.
Tell God what is scaring you right now. If you feel able, speak out loud.
What is important now is context. Is the cause of your fear something you need to take action to protect against? Can the situation be changed or do you need to remove yourself? If you are in danger, please act. Please seek help.
If you are not in danger, what is scaring you? Are you facing uncertainty, or overwhelming worries? What could help you now? Do you need a physical or psychological shelter?
Here is a simple prayer, say it with me.
God, I feel scared. I do not know what lies ahead, but I trust that you know and you are with me. Strengthen me and hold me safe.
Thank you for hearing my prayer. Amen.
Isaiah shares these words from God
I have chosen you and not cast you off’;
do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41: 9b-10
When we feel scared we can find a safe haven with God:

A prayer to put it in God’s hands
God, in your Christmas stories, you say “do not be afraid”.
To Mary, suddenly facing the prospect of an unexpected baby.
To Joseph, afraid to take Mary as his wife.
To terrified shepherds, surrounded by angels.
We too can know your reassurance.
We may not see any angels
Yet we can know the same message.
Do not be afraid.
God, grant me your peace.
Amen.
