The Methodist Church affirms the ministry of Local Lay-Pastors through accreditation. This affirms that an individual has the gifts, skills and knowledge for the role and is meeting the competencies.
The pathway to accreditation is flexible, recognising that each person begins at a different starting point. The typical pathway provides a route for individuals who may not have had the opportunity to undertake learning or are new to such a role - enabling them to develop their potential and grow into being a competent Local Lay-Pastor. For others who may have served in similar roles or have completed learning previously, the pathway to accreditation takes this into account.
Once accredited all Local Lay-Pastors must complete ongoing learning to maintain their accreditation status. The learning beyond accreditation should reflect the Local Lay-Pastor's context, providing them with opportunities to develop expertise in their ministry.
