The Widow's Mite - a hymn question

An email dropped into the StF Inbox recently. It described a familiar scenario, and asked a particular question.

“Dear Editor,

Our circuit is short of local preachers and our church has several Local Arrangement services.  The stewards at our church are preparing a service with the theme of The Widow’s Mite and I am looking for some resources.  I have looked through Singing the Faith Plus updates but haven’t found anything yet. Do you know of any hymns that I may have missed?

Yours in hope. . . ”

The Widow’s Mite story is told in the Gospel of Mark 12: 41-44 (and again by St Luke – 21: 1-4). Our own first response was: How about Marjorie Dobson’s A rich young man came seeking (StF 243)? It’s a hymn about “our care for money”. Verse 2 speaks specifically about the widow and her mite. Also, an older hymn – O God, what offering shall I give (StF 562) – the first verse echoes the story too."

However, we thought there would be other suggestions out there. So we put the question up on the StF+ Facebook page and out to other Methodists online. A number of responses came in.

I will offer up my life (StF 446)
In the bleak midwinter (StF 204 final verse)
Just as I am, without one plea (StF 556)
Take my life and let it be (StF 566, esp. v.4 - "Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold”)
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! (StF 186) or any other paraphrase of Mary’s Magnificat e.g. My soul rejoices in God my Saviour (StF 60)
What a friend we have in Jesus (StF 531)
