arms-outstretched-to-sunrise

1. Wake, O my soul, to earth and sea and sky
Wake to the forests, fields the mountains high
Open my eyes to every rock and tree
The Holy in all we see

Chorus:

You the Light of all creation
Blessèd be Your name
Every seed, every soul Your Love proclaim

2. Wake, O  my soul, to justice and to peace
Wake to a world where hate and war shall cease
Where every truth and story is revealed
The wounds of the past can heal

Chorus

3. Wake, O  my soul, to laughter and to song
Sing alleluia every doubt be gone
Stir in our hearts a sacred harmony
A prayer of community

Chorus x2

More information

One writer has described Pat Mayberry’s music as “a mystic’s journey to the centre of a very contemporary faith”. In this hymn, she explores the idea of waking to God's Spirit in all things, moving from holiness perceived in all of creation to a prayer for harmony (v.3) in our hearts and community.

Pat Mayberry is a Canadian song and hymn writer. Her early roots are in the United Church of Canada, in which she is still a very active member. After her family’s move to the UK in her teen years, Pat had the opportunity to study at both Durham and Edinburgh Universities. Her music has been much influenced by her years there.

Pat writes that she “loves to write music that opens the heart and lifts the spirit”, with inclusive language being a key aspect of her writing. She has hymns published in the More Voices hymnbook of the United Church of Canada and the Mennonite Voices Together hymnbook. She has also released five independent albums of original songs and hymns. She now lives outside of Ottawa in Canada “on a hobby farm with her partner, horses, cats and many other of God’s creatures”.
