A response from the Methodist Church to the Churches Together in England fourth presidency appointment
We recognise the pain and share the grief caused to the Quakers and other members of the CTE by this decision. The outcome does not represent the position of the Methodist Church which does not bar people who are in an equal marriage from any roles within the Church, but we acknowledge that not all churches are in the same place on same-sex marriage. We appreciate the care and prayerfulness taken during the decision-making process, of which the Methodist church has been a part, and we will continue to participate fully in the continuing journey with our ecumenical partners.
The Methodist Church is currently studying the report God in Love Unites Us which makes recommendations about many aspects of marriage and relationships and will consider the responses at the 2020 Conference.
